Madonna who just completed a visit to Malawi, has been appointed the Global Ambassador for Child Welfare by the country's President Peter Mutharika.
"I feel a deep commitment and love for the children of Malawi and am grateful for the support of the Government," said Madonna. I look forward to my new role as Global Ambassador for Child Welfare."
Earlier in the week, Madonna launched a new project with the Ministry of Health to construct a pediatric surgery and intensive care unit at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre, the country's commercial capital. The new facility is expected to open mid-2016.
Madonna also visited several primary schools funded by Raising Malawi in collaboration with partner, buildOn. The 10 schools are currently supporting more than 5,600 primary school students in Kasungu Province. She also participated in Grassroots Soccer, an HIV-prevention program for youth supported collaboratively by Raising Malawi and the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation.
