The title track from Madonna's seventh studio album became her highest debuting U.S. single ever - entering The Billboard Hot 100 at No. 5. The track garnered Madonna two Grammy nominations, including record of the year. Though it didn't win in that category, "Ray Of Light" did take home best dance recording. The frenzied video for the track, directed by Jonas Akerlund, was instantly thrown into heavy rotation on MTV. The clip won five 1998 MTV Video Music Awards: best video of the year, best female video, best direction in a video, best choreography in a video and best editing in a video. It also won the 1998 Grammy Award for Best Short Form Music Video. In addition, the clip was released as a limited edition video single, the first time Madonna had released a video single since 1990's "Justify My Love."
