The MDNA Tour - In Madonna's Own Words

August 27, 2012
My show
Is a journey.
The journey of a soul from darkness to light
It is part cinematic musical theatre.
Part spectacle and sometimes intimate Performance art.

But above all its a journey
From darkness to light
From anger to love
from chaos to order.

It's true there is a lot of violence in the beginning of the show and sometimes the use of fake guns - but they are used as metaphors.
I do not condone violence or the use of guns.
Rather they are symbols of wanting to appear strong and wanting to find a way to stop feelings that I find hurtful or damaging. In my case its wanting to stop the lies and hypocrisy of the church, the intolerance of many narrow minded cultures and societies I have experienced throughout my life and in some cases the pain I have felt from having my heart broken.

Ultimately as we follow through the journey of my story, the audience can see quite clearly what I see -
That the enemy is within and the only way to survive Disappointment Disapproval Judgment Heartbreak Jealousy Envy And Hatred Is with Love - not with revenge - not with guns and not with violence.

In spite of all the chaos and darkness and intolerance we seem to be encountering more and more in the world,
We cannot allow our anger or bitterness to swallow us up.
We come to understand that
There is an innate and pure love inside us all and we have to find a way to tap into it.

And we can't do it by being victims or placing the blame or pointing the finger at others.
But by recognizing that the enemy is within
And when we come to terms with it
And accept it
And struggle to change ourselves,
Then we can change the world without hurting anyone and we can inspire others to do the same.
When you watch a film there are usually good guys and bad guys to help illustrate this point, Sometimes I play both.
I enjoy acting out this journey.
For none of us are perfect and we all have our own journey of growth to go on.
I know people can relate to it.
It's very important to me as an artist that my show not be taken out of context.

It must be watched with an open heart from beginning to end. I am sure if it is viewed this way, the viewer will walk away feeling inspired, Invigorated and will want to make the world a better place.

And this of course was always my intention.

The MDNA Tour
I couldnt agree more with this statement. Madonna Tour 2012 is very strong and has very hard emotional reactions from a hurt heart which we all have gone threw, the only thing some of us cant do is express it in a way Madonna can. Thank you Madonna for just being beatiful you.

Good Explanation
The Enemy truly is within. I'm trying to learn that, understand it, recognize it, and confront it so that I don't hurt or destroy myself, my world, or those I care about. Emotionally, I have a great deal in common with you, Madonna. I thank you and am glad that your art and words can help me deal with the struggles I go through. I am my own worst enemy, and a powerful enemy at that. I can use all the strength and prayers I can get. I look forward to attending your show in Charlotte, NC! God Bless you Madonna. -Hunter Shires

About Madonna with LOVE
I admire, and I always use to admire the great job Madonna does for the music itself, for the world, for all of us. I admire her bravery, her ways of being outspoken and honest, sometimes painfully honest, but in a most creative way. We need that kind of honesty. You see a light even in the darkness listening to Madonna, going deep into her lyrics, which I love and admire. I remember once she said in an interview: “If you want to find the real me, listen to my ballades…” Madonna’s ballades are something I can’t compare to nothing else in the music history, may be only to Jim Morrison’s way to describe deep pain and one unique, incomparably great human side. At the same time - tenderness, which is great! Madonna has this deep human side, which actually makes me to fall in love with her art forever and never stop loving her as a singer and as a human being! I am so grateful for being alive and existing today witnessing one great star as Madonna in my lifetime. It is a gift! And I cherish it; I am thankful and happy for having it! And please, Madonna, do not give up! I am so sick and tired of negative comments, evilly minded articles, pointless talk about age, personal attacking, cheap efforts to provoke you, to hurt you, to underestimate your job, your art, your persona and all… It seems that we people are having the ability to forget what means what, what we have received trough the years from great artist like you, and so easily we are trying to underestimate the great things you have done… It hurts, I believe… But remember - it hurts not only you, it hurts all of us, because we love you! And here is my point… LOVE! We love you, Madonna! Remember that! And that is decided a long, long time ago! A LOVE that it is undying! You have a very special place in our hearts… And right there you, Madonna, are irreplaceable and indestructible… Even though you say in that wonderful ballade of yours: “Nothing’s indestructible…” There are some very special exceptions, Madonna! And that is YOU! We love you! A LOVE, which you have earned, you deserve and you have! WE LOVE YOU! Simply go on, QUEEN!

I don't understand why people like to judge everything u do. Your concert is a play from a real life and when you tell a story about real life & feelings it's understandable that when it comes to negative feelings ,u use guns & shooting (why the same people that judges u ,doesn't judge opera or theatre because there are guns & violence too). But the difference with your show is that you don't admire violence and make it look funny (like in many comedy films in these days) & there is the most important message in your show & that is ,it's really easy to hate somebody ,but the more important thing would be to find out ,why there is so much hate in us and learn to love and respect each other because everyone of us ,no matter who u are ,is important and I think people judge u Madonna ,because you've the guts to say that people should love each one & stop the war!

Unique Madonna
I have been to your concerts since 1987 and have been blown away each time. They are brilliant, creative productions. For people who are easily offended, they should not go to a Madonna show simple as that. You put your heart and soul into each show and true fans know this. I have been to lots of concerts and no-one comes close to putting on an original show like yours.

Remember
that always success comes with people full of envy. Madonna has always been in the public eye, and all the time people talks about what she does or the ways she chose to express it. WE all have the right to express our minds, but in her case, she has the posibility to change minds. thumbs of for you my queen! never give up.

hello again
I was a little sad when I read your comments about the church. I personally love my church. I love you as well ever since about 10 years ago when I went through a bad break up. I couldn't eat or sleep. I was in a lot of pain. when I was praying to God I asked him if there was any part of him that was female that would hold me and ease my pain. Then I felt myself in madonnas arms I just cried myself to sleep as she held me. but my doctor just said it was all in my head but sometime I cant help to wonder.lol

I don't get it..,
Nobody is calling for Broadway or Opera or Any other forms of art to stand down - demanding these artists to not use that prop gun or don't show this truth or expose that lie - what is really going on here? It's been a few devastating weeks of high visibility with gun violence here in America but this is happening everywhere - wars are being fought, children are being trafficked, men are tormenting women, gays are being bashed and God is not saving any of us. Long live the Queen.

I do not like Madonna when she justifies
I do not like Madonna when she justifies herself (always when she touches the USA, always afraid, as when American Life marvellous and inspired but rejected videoclip), and when she sounds like a "self-help" and personal growth book. Dear Madonna, you taught us to be strong, and defend our ideas, our acts and our way of life no matter what came against. Now you sound like a "sorry to disturb, do not stop buying me, do not understimate me, do not misunderstand me, do not take me out of context..." What the heck! Let's them do stop buying you, misunderstand you! Does it matters? We love you when you say like in Erotica "I'll teach you how to f*ck". Not now that you want to teach your north american fans (sorry, but you seem that you are forced to do this only when in USA, and no one asked you when were touring Europe to do the same) how to "take you".

Spread the love
You have always been an inspiration, Madonna! I may have never see your MDNA tour (since I am only 17 and from Philippines and cannot afford to travel outside of the country) I know, we know, that just you alone, is an inspiration. Thank you for existing in this cruel world. Thank you for reminding us that we can always change for a better version of our self. LUV you our Queen!

Such an inspiration
It's incredible how this woman can inspire me.. I love every single word I've read and I swear, the MDNA Tour leaves you something great inside you.. The consciousness that love is the way and that there's no point in blaming the others when the blame is to be searched inside of us.. It's true.. After having watched this incredible show, I walked away feeling inspired and invigorated.. And these feelings have never left me, they will always be inside of me.. This show changed me, changed me in a better way.. And I'd really love to make all the people see what I saw during the show cause I'm sure that, as Madonna said, the MDNA Tour is watched with an open heart, people would be able to make the world a better place.. Thank you Madonna for giving us such amazing feelings.. You changed my life and you always inspire me.. It's hard, but I want to make the world a better place! You showed us the way: love.

I love how you reinterpreted your material on the MDNA tour! I felt the glimpses and photos in the press fail gloriously to show the intricacies, audacity and revelations of your show in motion! I wished there were three concerts - there was so much new ideas in the show I wish there was more time to savor it! Do a book Madonna - a book project! xxxxxxxx

THE BEAST WITHIN
I have enjoyed the show from what I have seen on video broadcast channels; I have enjoyed every little controversy it has brought about; I have enjoyed to see a gorgeous MADONNA dancing and being erotic and violent as - we know - she likes to act for her audience. I do not think that at this stage in her life and her career, any of us could critique her any less for being ASWESOMELY AND SPECTACULARLY HERSELF IN HER TRUE ESCENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT'S WHAT ANY OF HER SHOWS HAVE TAUGHT ME AND MDNA WILL NOT BE AN EXCEPTION. 3 MONTHS AWAY TO EXPERIENCE TWICE THE BEST SHOW ON EARTH. ALL THE LOVE FROM BOGOTA COLOMBIA.

Profound Words from Madonna
Indeed one of the most profound statements ever written by Madonna, a pearl of wisdom to her fans and all who attend her MDNA concert that we are all called to be instruments of change in the world. Bravo, Madonna!

From the heart
I know it is true because when I cry due to pain and sorrow and sometimes happy inspiring moments, it come from my heart, and then to my head. Eventually the tears come. So everything starts with the heart. Even life. So yes, have an open heart during the show and it will let you know what to do. In this case it will bring joy and happiness and sometimes sadness to know what she must have indured to have inspired her to write the song and if you look and listen carefully it will lead you to realize what she had felt during those times of happiness and sadness and it inspires others to kick ass at what you want your life to be. Can not wait to see the show and most likely I will cry during Like A Virgin but should be inspired by Celebration and I will walk out at the with a smile .. Long life the Queen of the music industry.

Girl Going Wild
Madonna- I love what you wrote. It's smart as hell and from the heart. I love how you use global metaphors to express your personal struggles (and triumphs). Of course, I can relate in my own way. And if people dont, that's their problem. Look forward to seeing your "journey" live on Sept 6 in NYC!!!! I'm gonna be a girl gone wild. Love, Charlotte

Thanks for sharing your truth
Thanks for this Madonna. Of course there is a deeper message of good in your show. You are a true artist, always expressing the truth and what you feel and know at this moment. People can't unknow what they know and the spiritual journey never goes backwards :)I get it, you're also entertaining people and trying to get their attention. You put your heart and soul into your shows and they are amazing! Perhaps those who don't know you or haven't paid attention along the way may miss the message. Surprised to see you perform with a gun
Madonna, I greatly anticipate your performance tomorrow night in PA. I've checked out the show and was a bit shocked to see the "shoot your lover in the head" part of the concert. I understand metaphors and I know you are a non violent person. I just hope it comes across when I see the entire show. Of course the judgemental talking heads are going on and on about how you can have such little compassion for family members affect by the movie theatre murders. They think your only intention is to sell tickets via shock and awe. I'm pretty sure I'll understand it once I see it. If you need a kick ass physical therapist for your dancers...write back! Eileen
